Who writes what
Everything written on this site comes from the three people on the writers page, and each of them covers the subjects they know best rather than taking whatever is next in the queue. Samran writes the study and exam material, Zaher the course planning pieces, and Aurangzaib the scholarship and funding ones. Whoever writes a piece has their name on it, and questions about it go to them.
Where the material comes from
The calculators follow the grading conventions that American schools have used for decades, which are documented publicly by universities themselves in their own academic catalogues. Where a rule genuinely varies between institutions, and a great many of them do, we describe what is common and then say clearly that your own school sets the actual policy. We would rather leave you with an accurate uncertainty than a confident number that turns out not to apply to you.
For the written pieces we work from what is already established rather than from a single source, and where a claim is contested we say it is contested. A guide that presents one study as settled fact is a guide that will eventually mislead somebody.
How the drafts are produced
Every piece is edited by the writer whose name appears on it before it goes out, and the rule behind that edit is simple and not negotiable: nothing unverifiable may be presented as confirmed fact. No invented statistics, no fabricated quotes, no specific institutional policy stated as universal when it is not. Where something cannot be established, the piece says so rather than filling the gap with a sentence that reads well.
What that editing pass is actually for is the arithmetic and the claims. Any worked example in a guide is recalculated by hand against the calculator on the site, because an example that disagrees with the tool it is explaining is worse than no example at all.
What we will not publish
We do not accept payment to recommend a school, a course, a tutoring service or any product, and we do not publish sponsored material dressed up as editorial. Advertising on this site is placed by an ad network and neither we nor the writers choose which advertisements appear, so their presence carries no endorsement from us. We also decline to publish anything that encourages academic dishonesty, and we do not tell anyone what their official GPA is, because only their registrar can answer that.
Corrections
When something here is wrong we fix it rather than quietly deleting it, and if the error was one that could have changed a reader's decision we note on the page that it was corrected and when. Reports of a calculator producing an unexpected number are the ones we act on fastest, so tell us which tool you used, what you entered and what you expected to see. Every message reaches the address at the top of this page.
Keeping pages current
Guidance about grading does not change quickly, but it does change, and pages that quietly rot are how sites lose the trust they built. The reference pages carry the date they were last reviewed, and when a piece is revised the date moves with it. If you find something that has stopped being true, that message is more useful to us than almost anything else you could send.
