What this site is
gpacalculator is a set of six calculators covering college GPA, high school GPA weighted for honors and AP work, cumulative GPA across several terms, class grades from individual assignments, grades built from weighted categories, and the score needed on a final exam to reach a target. Alongside them sit reference pages on the grading scales themselves and a blog on studying, course planning and funding.
There is no account, no paywall and no email capture. You land on a page, type your grades in, and the answer is there. That is the whole product.
How the calculations work
Everything runs in your browser using JavaScript. When you type a grade, your device does the arithmetic and updates the result; no figure is sent anywhere. The point values follow the standard American 4.0 scale, with switches for the schools that count an A plus above 4.0 and for weighted honors and AP grading, because both variations are common enough to matter.
Grading policy differs between institutions in ways no calculator can guess at, particularly around repeated courses, transfer credits and pass or fail classes. We treat every result as a close estimate rather than an official figure, and we say so on each page. Your transcript is the authority.
Your data
What you enter is saved to your browser's local storage so that refreshing the page or closing the tab does not cost you your work. That storage sits on your own device and we have no access to it. The clear button on any calculator removes it, as does clearing your browser data. We are not able to look up anyone's grades, which is the useful consequence of building the tools this way.
Who writes it
Three people write the guides and blog posts, and each piece carries the name of whoever wrote it. You can read what they cover on the writers page. We put names on articles because guidance about your education should come from someone you can identify and question, not from an anonymous house voice.
How the site is funded
Advertising pays for the hosting. We do not sell data, because there is none to sell, and we do not take payment for recommending any product or institution. Where you see an advertisement it has been placed by an ad network, not chosen by us, and its presence is not an endorsement.
Corrections
If a calculation looks wrong, or your school uses a scale we do not handle, that is the most useful message you can send us. Reports like that are how the tools get better. Write to [email protected] or use the contact page, and the disclaimer sets out what this site can and cannot tell you.
